Function words and their implications for building stoplists for Philippine languages, at Dagitab Digital Humanities Workshop, Zoom, Monday, November 9, 2020

This presentation provides the audience with an introduction to information retrieval and indexing, the use of stopword and stoplist, and identifying the words that should be included in a stoplist. It contextualizes these concepts to how the content words and function words in the corpora of Philippine languages fare in building stoplists for use in constructing search engines, document indices, and other functionalities related to digital humanities.

The paper explores the relativization mechanisms in Romblomanon, and how these relativized sentences are embedded to another sentence to form a complex construction.
