Ikotoki Project Spearhead/Advisor
Maria Christine Muyco is one of the most active mid-career composers in the Philippines. She is currently an elected member of the Executive Committee (along with Taiwanese, Singaporean, and New Zealander representatives) of the Asian Composers League (ACL), an organization consisting of delegations from fifteen (15) countries throughout Asia and the Western Pacific region. She also serves as Chair of its Philippine chapter, the ACL Philippines, Inc. Her recent works include the IkoToki for a Jeepney Orchestra, Pagbilog for a Chinese Orchestra, and Bu(u)kot for Large Orchestra and Dance. Her piece for computer music, solo dance, and voice entitled, Tikang, was premiered at Abelardo Hall of the U.P. College of Music (2013; the Chinese instrumental ensemble Forbidden City played the world-premiere of her composition Baradbad in Tel-Aviv, Israel (2012); Ti(nag)hoy for choir commissioned by the U.P. Singing Ambassadors had a world premier performance at the Bartok International Choral Competition in Hungary, 2012; Ang Paghabyug sang Pendulum for large choir and percussions received its world premiere in Taipei, Taiwan in 2011; and among others. At present, she is a tenured professor at the College of Music of the University of the Philippines, and is Chairperson of its Composition and Theory Department.
