Filomin Gutierrez, PhD, is Professor of sociology at the University of the Philippines Diliman where she teaches social deviance, sociology of violence, and research methods at the UPD Department of Sociology. She has published book chapters and journal articles on the topics of crime, delinquency, history of Philippine criminology, prison gangs, fraternities, masculinity, and violence. She has previously served as president of the Philippine Sociological Society, vice-president of the Philippine Social Science Council and vice-president for national associations of the International Sociological Association (ISA). The book she edited, Crime and Punishment in the Philippines: Beyond Politics and Spectacle, published by the Philippine Social Science Council, received the 2022 Outstanding Book Award from the Philippine’s National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST).
