FILOMIN CANDALIZA-GUTIERREZ, PhD, is Professor of Sociology at the University of the Philippines Diliman where she teaches social deviance, sociology of violence, and research methods. She has published on topics of crime, delinquency, history of Philippine criminology, prison gangs, fraternities, masculinity, and violence. Her current research and publications focus on violence and the war on drugs from the perspective of arrested persons and the police. She was a former president of the Philippine Sociological Society and the current vice president for National Associations of the International Sociological Association. She edited the book, Crime and Punishment in the Philippines: Beyond Politics and Spectacle published in 2020 by the Philippine Social Science Council.
