Mission and Vision

The Department’s vision statement, oriented and inculcated in all Department stakeholders, is to be:

An inspiring and influential leader in communication scholarship: unraveling, interrelating, and giving coherence to the symbolic and structural environment; pioneering critical and creative communication solutions and innovations; and enabling meaningful citizenship in Philippine society and the global community.  

In line with this vision, the Department’s mission is outlined as the following: 

  • Instruction. Ensure curricular relevance astride other departments of the College of Mass Communication. Project core values of excellence in instruction and research, engendering an interdisciplinary attitude. 
  • Research. Develop and promote basic and applied communication studies. Advise and supervise the thesis programs of communication research undergraduate and graduate students in terms of direction, thrust, and incentive.
  • Extension. Establish working linkages with other institutions, organizations, groups, and individuals in view of attendant and subsidiary departmental concerns.

The Department seeks to be a dynamic, sufficiently funded, extensively networked, and well-marketed Institute for Communication Studies (ICS) offering academic degree programs as well as research and extension services within the next decade.
