Since its inception in 1975, the Communication Research program has included courses designed to develop scholarship, skills, proficiency, and professionalism among its students. In addition, the Department undertakes research and extension activities benefiting stakeholders from sectors within and beyond the academe.
The UP CMC Department of Communication Research is the only recipient of the Center of Excellence (COE) in Communication by the Philippine Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the highest recognition for a tertiary-level program in the country.
As the pioneer academic unit offering undergraduate and graduate programs in Communication Research, the Department has built a positive reputation such that schools of communication around the country have sent their faculty and staff as students to its graduate programs (i.e., M.A. Communication and Ph.D. Communication) and as trainees in short-term courses. Of the undergraduate programs of the College, it is Communication Research that is regarded as the most rigorous and strictest in its grading system. Moreover, the program has a social scientific orientation.
