UP-IESM's CARbON Lab Detects Persistent CO2 Sources in Rizal Province
A persistent CO2 source from Rizal was detected from a synergy of measurements and modelling at UP-IESM's CARbON Lab.  Rizal province is known for its cement manufacturing (e.g. Rizal Cement products) due to large deposits of limestone in the area.  Cement production produces large amount of CO2 emissions due to the calcination process of limestone.

A persistent CO2 source from Rizal province was detected from a synergy of measurements and modelling at UP-IESM's CARbON Lab.  Rizal province is known for its cement manufacturing (e.g. Rizal Cement products) due to large deposits of limestone in the area.  Cement production produces large amount of CO2 emissions due to the calcination process of limestone.

Due to the long-lived and well-mixed nature of atmospheric carbon dioxide, it can stay in the air for long periods of time and it can be transported for long distances.

Currently, there are procedures to make cement production CO2-free. Ensuring that these cement plants comply with the country's environmental laws is therefore essential.
