Dr. Jalton Garces Taguibao is Associate Professor of Political Science and Public Management at the Department of Political Science, University of the Philippines-Diliman.
He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of the Philippines-Diliman and Masters in Public Management from the University of the Philippines-Manila. He received his degree, Doctor of Philosophy in Political Science from the University of the Philippines-Diliman. He did his postgraduate studies abroad, specializing on research methodology and Quantitative Text Analysis at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Germany and Universidade de São Paulo in Brazil, respectively. Dr. Taguibao served as a member of the faculty of the Asia Pacific Studies Program (APS) of the University of the Asia and the Pacific (UA&P), and the Department of Social Sciences (DSS) at the University of the Philippines-Manila. His areas of specialization are in public policy, policy research and analysis, and research methodology. His research interests are on sustainability, environment, technology and innovations, and political communication. He currently holds the 2019-2021 One U.P. Faculty Grant Award in Political Science (Public Policy) for Outstanding Research and Public Service in the University of the Philippines, Diliman.
Apart from being academic work, he has been immersed in policy research and consultancy for government agencies and civil society organizations since 1999. Dr. Taguibao was Project & Research Manager of the Affiliated Network for Social Accountability-East Asia and the Pacific – a regional network of NGOs working with state agencies in promoting governance-centered programs and projects. He has also served as consultant and trainor at the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP), as well as an occasional resource person at the Philippine Statistical Research and Training Institute (PSRTI).
Dr. Taguibao is currently the Program Convenor of the Data Science for Public Policy Program (DSPP) of the University of the Philippines-System, Center for Integrative and Development Studies (UP CIDS). He also serves as the Undergraduate Program Coordinator of the UP Department of Political Science.
