When students from UP Tacloban came to cross-register in UP Diliman in the aftermath of Yolanda Typhoon in November 2013 so many enrolled in our courses that Sociology 101 had to open a new section to accommodate the large number.

Two resident sociology majors from Eastern Visayas whose families were affected by Typhoon Yolanda receive assistance through the generosity of our alumni. A group of alumni who call themselves, "Socio Barkada '75-'76," volunteered to extend financial assistance. The majors now each receive a grant that subsidizes their monthly living allowance in the Diliman campus for a year. We express our gratitude to our alumni for their support to the our resident students.
