On Music, Narrative, and Violence: Reading Haruki Murakami from Kobe and Manila

Last June 3, 2021 (1:00 PM - 3:00 PM) the Philosophy 198: Philosophy In/And/Of Pop Culture class of Dr. KC Abalos-Orendain held a Special Lecture entitled "On Music, Narrative, and Violence: Reading Haruki Murakami from Kobe and Manila". The main speaker, Prof. Emeritus Kazashi Nobuo of Kobe University, spoke extensively on the persistent theme of violence in Murakami's work as well as the limitations of narrative in expressing philosophical concepts. Dr. KC Abalos-Orendain followed with a brief commentary. A vibrant Q&A exchange capped the afternoon's event with participants hailing from various universities in the Philippines, Japan, and Vietnam. A second lecture might be offered next semester.
