VALIDATING CI2 AND DU2 MONSOON INDICES FOR THE PHILIPPINES USING RAINFALL AND WIND DATA

This study intends to validate the CI2 and DU2 monsoon indices for the Philippines using rainfall and wind data for the monsoon episodes during the 30-year period (January 1983 – December 2013). It also aims to measure the strength of the monsoon with the use of CI2 and DU2 monsoon indices. However, the study does not involve predicting the onset, peak and withdrawal patterns of the monsoon. Moreover, a monsoon index for the Philippines will be constructed based on the CI2 and DU2 monsoon indices and rainfall and wind cluster analyses. Furthermore, a vulnerability index corresponding to the result of the effect of the monsoon will be constructed, which can be contributed to disaster risk reduction.
