Celebrate National Literature Month with us as we launch "Sugilanon - A Webinar Lecture Series" with the theme, as provided by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts: "Muling Pagtuklas sa Karunungang-Bayan".
The theme encourages an invigoration of the interest of this generation to study, re-discover, and nurture our literary wealth and folk knowledge in their various forms and shapes.
We open with two webinar lectures on Literature that puts emphasis on discovering our literary wealth and on safeguarding our folk literatures. Our speakers are Dr. Jose Wendell P. Capili of the University of the Philippines Diliman Department of English and Comparative Literature, and Dr. Christine F. Godinez Ortega of the Mindanao Creative and Cultural Workers Group. Dr. Capili will talk about Pop Culture vs Fan Culture in the Philippines, while Dr. Ortega will discuss the importance of folk knowledge for literary writing.
We culminate with a set of webinar lectures on Graphic Novels. The lecturers are Denmark-based Budgette Tan, author of “Trese”, the first Filipino comics to be shown on Netflix and translated into several languages; Katrina F. Olan for her comic book, “Tablay”; Mikha Marohombsar Alawi for her manga about selected episodes from the Meranaw epic Darangen; and Yuri Pinzon, Senior Keyframe Artist of the Japanese company, World Anime Network for her experiences as an animator.
